2016 Election EssayThe election was/is devastating to me. As a 12th grader, I'm already scared enough to enter "the real world". And yet, having to be under this person as president scares me more.
Donald Trump is president. It sounds awful to say, type, acknowledge. Though he's president, he is #NotMyPresident. As a girl, and a "minority" because of my Mexican & Salvadorian roots, I feel beyond terrified, unsafe, and threaten to know he is the POTUS. I disagree with the electoral college's votes. Our president, no matter what is supposed to treat us, his people, equal. Regardless of race, sexuality, gender, etc. Yet he does the opposite. Trump has disrespected women, those of the LGBTQ+ community, and immigrants. He has threatened a to build a bigger wall to keep us out of "his" country. He has specifically targeted mexicans and calling us awful things such as rapists and criminals. He wants to ban muslims to "solve" the terrorist issue; and if some do stay he wants them to wear badges to identify their religion. He is xenophobic. He contradicts himself by saying he thinks highly of women but believes it's okay to touch a woman without her consent. Otherwise known as SEXUAL ASSAULT. In addition, he and his VP want to introduce "Conversion Therapy." A procedure that basically is an attempt to shock the gay out of a person. Trump being president will be chaotic. |
